Software design for a plastics manufacturing company to plan raw material production using artificial intelligence.

Their need

Creation of a support tool for polymer production planning based on the determined strategies, complying with established restrictions and achieving greater efficiency and usability to the current system.

The process

We performed observation sessions with the end users where we were able to get to know in-depth the current system with which they execute the planning process. At the same time, we studied a large amount of documentation given by them with detailed explanations. Once we understood the process, we conducted focus groups to learn more about the expectations, needs, and requirements that the users were looking for.

Throughout two months we had a weekly meeting where we showed each step of the design phase (navigation flow, wireframes, prototype), having feedback, iterations, and continuous approval. Once the product was developed, we tested it with the users and iterated several times until we reached a functional and user-friendly product.

The most important challenges of this project that I want to highlight are the following:

The end-users had different profiles, so it was necessary to achieve a product that unified all the needs together

Complex planning system due to the intervention of different profiles, machinery, and products from different origins

Make it user-friendly to integrate the work of artificial intelligence with appropriate modifications that the user considers necessary

Making the design enhance the planning experience to make it more satisfying and enjoyable to execute

Efficient and quick display of errors to facilitate rectification and prevent major damages

The use of color to understand at a glance the stock and production conditions.
